Achievement Unlocked: Publication!

One of my big goals for 2013 was to pursue publication of one of my jewelry pieces in a book. However, when it became evident that I’d be making an international move and would be dealing with all of the stress that entails, I put that goal aside for another, less hectic year. So imagine my surprise when it ended up it happening anyway! If all fairs well, I’m pleased to announce that Protection (aka ‘The Horn Ring’) and Waking the Wolf will be in the upcoming book On Body and Soul: Contemporary Armor to... Read The Rest →

Evolution of a Mask

Though it’s not my primary focus, I like making masks.  I am one of those people that has a near-impossible time of masking their emotions.  My face is an animated, ongoing explanation of what’s going on inside my head at any given time.  (though there is some confusion around my ‘thinking’ face, which apparently looks like I’m incredibly irritated)  Sadly this means I will never be a great poker player.  But hey, I can barely manage a game of chess without giving away my motives, let alone something with actual... Another Passion

Occasionally I manage to sit still for more than the minute or two that is required for a Facebook post and write something a little more in depth.  I haven’t been doing that as frequently as I’d like, so I’ve recently teamed up with Rasmus Rasmussen at Another Passion to motivate myself to write on a more regular basis.  Nothing inspires me quite like being part of a larger, inspirational project and having a clear deadline to strive for each month! You can read my current collection of articles here:... Read The Rest →

A Weekend with NC Black at The Ranch

This past weekend I had the opportunity to take a 2-day workshop on micro shell-forming with Andrea Kennington and Les Bryant of NC Black.  I’d purchased several of their micro-forming hammers at the 2011 SNAG conference in Seattle. And though I’d intended to learn how to use them at some point, I shamefully admit they mostly just sat in my studio looking pretty and not actually hammering anything.   While they really are gorgeous little tools, having the opportunity to actually learn how to use them wasn’t something I could... Logo Brainstorming

I’ve gotten more attached to the idea of having some sort of official logo for my Kind of Strange work. While I’m no illustrator, I do like to doodle and tonight I made an attempt at hashing out a design. This is what I’ve come up with thus far: It needs some reworking and cleaning up, but for the time being I’m liking the concept. What do you think?

A new site!

For quite some time now I’ve wanted to completely redo KindofStrange.com. I’ve been spending a great deal of time working on actual jewelry lately, but have in turn neglected my web presence. So here’s to a fresh new start! Love the new design? Hate it? Let me know your thoughts!
